Summer Reading Program is a Treasure

What a blast! 68 moms, grammas, sitters, cousins and kids came to the Library today for the Summer Reading Program. This is the first time I can remember that more people have come the second week than the first. Word must be out that this is a great program for kids! Our very own Princess Ashton sang I’m Yours while accompanying herself on the guitar. She also read the book Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. In this book Max makes mischief and imagines he sails away to where the wild things are. The treasure he finds at the end is the love of his mom. (The hot meal is good too) At the end of the program, the kids said they LOVED IT! Little Luci moved side to side with a BIG SMILE. And shy Madeline twirled her skirt to show her appreciation. This is what community is about, joining together and sharing our talents here in the Library.

Our craft today was a Treasure Bottle. With trinkets and wheat we filled our bottles. During quiet time we can search for items on the label. Think of it as a personal I Spy.

Keep reading and filling out your treasure maps! Mrs. McManus collected 16 reading logs today and each child got to pick out a prize. Our grand prize drawing will be at the last program, August 9. Outdoor Initiatives has donated ‘A Day With the Ponies’.  A voucher to visit Susan & Mark Schwindiman’s (sp) horse ranch & their 17 minature horses.  The directors of Outside Initiative, for more information on all their programs go to www.leadhorse.org

Next week the Library welcome’s Penny’s Puppet Productions. This program is brought to us by the Oregon College Savings Plan. This imaginative show takes the audience on a magical, musical journey packed full of comedy, laughter, and audience participation, blurring the boundaries between fantasy and reality to create a fun, make-believe work where anything can happen and usually does. We are planning on going outside into the Library Park for this program. Go on the account with us (come on a pirate cruise with us) but wear sunscreen, bring your pirate hat and blanket to sit on and enjoy the fun at your fabulous Brownsville Library!
