Penny's Puppets as much fun as a ferret, a gopher, a worm, a . . .

Penny's Puppets as much fun as a ferret, a gopher, a worm, a . . .

With blankets in hand and sunscreen on 48 adults and children enjoyed Penny’s Puppet Productions in the Library Park. The Oregon College Savings Plan provided a free performer for our Library this summer. This imaginative show took the audience on a magical, musical journey packed full of comedy, laughter, and audience participation, blurring the boundaries between fantasy and reality to create a fun, make-believe work where anything can happen and usually does. We were lucky to have Penny’s Puppet Productions with us today.

Keep reading and filling out your treasure maps! Mrs. McManus collected 13 reading logs today and each child got to pick out a prize from the treasure chest. The directors of Outside Initiative, Susan and Mark Schwendiman, have generously donated  ‘A Day With the Ponies’ for one lucky family. Outside Initiatives is a youth-run,  miniature horse-based program that enhances the health and vibrancy of our community by building good character and leadership in our youth.  For more information on all their programs go to

The Oregon College Savings Plan, the Oregon State Library and the Oregon Library Association have joined forces to present We Dig Summer Reading and Saving for College. Encouraging children to read during the summer, We Dig Summer Reading gives parents a chance to win a $1,000 Oregon College Savings Plan account on behalf of their loved ones, plus $500 for the winner’s library. Oregon parents, grandparents and guardians who are at least 18 years of age may enter on behalf of their child (age 18 or younger) who has enrolled in an Oregon public library summer reading program. Fifteen entrants will be selected, three per each of the five Oregon Congressional Districts. Sign up for summer reading at the Brownsville Library and complete a We Dig Summer Reading entry form, available from your local library. One entry per child, please.

Join us this Friday as the Library welcome’s Teacher Carolyn and AG in the Classroom. We will be outside for our craft – in the shade this time. Teacher Carolyn will be teaching us how to plant a pirate ship! Put your pirate hat on, bring your mates and join the fun at your fabulous Brownsville Library!  Keep reading and reap the Booty (treasure.) at your Brownsville Library.
