Library Advisory Board Minutes

             Members of the Library Advisory Board met this day in regular session at the Brownsville Library in the Kirk Room, Brownsville, Oregon, at 4:00 PM.

 *Present: Chairman Joey Running, June Schlosser, Jamie McConnell and Librarian Sherri Lemhouse.

 Absent:  Jennifer Ashcraft, Kristin Whitehead

 Public: None

 Presiding:  Joey Running

             Mrs. Running called the meeting to order.  As a first item of business Mrs. McConnell made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 10, 2015 meeting as presented by recording secretary Sherri Lemhouse. Mrs. Running seconded the motion. The minutes were approved by all.

             Librarian Sherri reported that more than 200 people attended the Jane Kirkpatrick Event at Atavista Farm. Mari VanderStelt of Yankee Dutch Quilts made and donated a quilt called ‘The Two Eliza’s’. Using it as a raffle, the quilt raised more than $300 for the Library. These funds were deposited with the Brownsville Women’s Study Club who helped with the event. The City is organizing Arbor Day events. These events include special Story Times on Fridays with Ms. Thea. There will be an Arbor Day Social Thursday, October 15 from 4 – 6 pm. There will be an activity and refreshments served. Librarian Sherri is helping Elizabeth Coleman with these events. Author R. A. Moore will be making a special appearance Saturday, November 7 from 2 – 3 pm. Mrs. McConnell will help distribute flyers to the schools and encourage young writers to come and ask questions of the author. The Library will be closed for Holiday Closures 11/11; 11/26-28; 12/24-26. The Friends of the Library will be holding their Annual Book Sale 12/5 – 12. Friends will begin to set up the books on Friday, 12/4 at 10 am. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library has 122 children registered from birth to age 5. There have been more applications due to recent publicity blitz through United Way. The City will be replacing the Library HVAC System.  Best Heating and Cooling was awarded contract for $14,700. They will be installing wi-fi thermostats and an easily changed filter. This is scheduled to begin Monday, October 19 and be finished October 20. With the new thermostats, etc. they will be able to troubleshoot the units via the internet, and come prepared for any future repairs in one visit. Also, you will be able to program the units very easily from a computer, or remotely if necessary.

Librarian Sherri unveiled the invites for the Library Volunteer Christmas Cookie Exchange. Members were enthusiastic and looking forward to hosting the event.

 There being no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned.

             The next meeting will be Thursday, November 12, 2015 in the Kirk Community Room at the library.
