Library Advisory Board Minutes
November 10, 2016
Members of the Library Advisory Board met this day in regular session at the Brownsville Library in the Kirk Room, Brownsville, Oregon, at 4:00 PM.
*Present: Kristin Whitehead, Joey Running, Kristin Whitehead, Barbara DeRobertis and Librarian Sherri Lemhouse.
Absent: Jennifer Ashcraft, Gwen Landon
Presiding: Kristin Whitehead
Ms. Whitehead called the meeting to order. As a first item of business Mrs. Running made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 13, 2016 meeting as presented by recording secretary Sherri Lemhouse. Mrs. DeRobertis seconded the motion. The minutes were approved by all.
Librarian Sherri reported that the Librarian’s computer has crashed twice this month. The first repair took six business days to bring all programs back into operation. The second had a quicker solution. She and Mr. McDowell are discussing how to make the necessary changes to the Library system to ensure this does not happen again. The No School Library Days were a success! The Library will be closed the following holiday hours: Veterans Day: Friday, November 11; Thanksgiving Holiday : November 24 – 26; Christmas Eve: Saturday, December 24; New Year’s Eve: Saturday, December 31, 2016.
City Administrator reports that he spoke with Derrick Sterling, Linn County Clerk’s Office Election Supervisor, regarding the process of certifying the election. Mr. Sterling said the County will be counting votes until early next week. People also may contest the election results, so there is a waiting period for that process. Mr. Sterling said that if there are no challenges, the Clerk’s Office will certify the election results on November 2oth. What we know for sure is that Mr. Block and Mrs. Gerber will be on Council next year. Mrs. Thompson. Mrs. Chambers and Mr. Buzzard are too close to call until all the votes have been counted.
We also know that the City will be allowed to tax marijuana operations. We do not know if marijuana will be allowed as the vote is too close to call.
Randy & Gayle Simpson contacted the City yesterday to talk about the process of getting the ordinance changed. Randy said that he would be applying for a permit through the State. If Council is able to certify the election results on November 22nd, then legislation would be prepared for the potential business registration ordinance change at the December 20th, 2016 Council meeting.
The City would like to thank all who ran for public office.
Member Joey Running expressed concern over staff not realizing when people come into and out of the Kirk Room at the Library. She entered and exited four times without staff realizing anyone was in the building. She feels that staff awareness for this room could be better. Librarian Sherri researched the possibility of adding an additional transmitter to our Entrance Alert Kit. Mrs. Running made a motion to recommend to City Council that the Library add an additional transmitter at the north door of the Kirk Room. Ms. Whitehead seconded the motion. It was approved by all.
There being no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be Thursday, December 8, 2016 in the Kirk Community Room at the library.
