February 8, 2018

Members of the Library Advisory Board met this day in regular session at the Brownsville Library in the Kirk Room, Brownsville, Oregon, at 4:00 PM.

*Present: Chairperson Jennifer Ashcraft, Joey Running, Gwen Landon and Barbara DeRobertis and Librarian Sherri Lemhouse.

 Absent:  Kristin Whitehead

 Public: None

 Presiding:  Jennifer Ashcraft

Mrs. Ashcraft called the meeting to order.  As a first item of business Mrs. DeRobertis made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 11, 2018 meeting as presented by recording secretary Sherri Lemhouse. Mrs. Running seconded the motion. The minutes were approved by all.

Librarian Sherri reported that being interviewed by Alex Paul and Jessica Habjan (video) of the Albany Democrat-Herald was fun. Her next lyrical librarian report will be in about three years. She will try to remember to let library patrons know when this will happen so everyone can enjoy the fun. Public Works removed the smoke tree as requested. The next day Friends of the Brownsville Community Library planted three new bushes. These were labeled as up to 4 feet. We are hopeful that they will not grow out of control and be easier to maintain. LEGO time has been fun. There has been moderate interest in coming to the Library and playing together. The Edge Initiative is wrapping up. This helped me become aware of different programs and library policies using technology. In the time available it was reasonable to review and update our website and conduct a patron survey. The website had many broken links that were fixed with the help of volunteers. The survey brought up ideas for programing that would require additional staff time. I am planning to write a grant to the Central Linn Community Foundation for a wireless printer/scanner/copier for public use. This grant proposal will include funds for a technician to set up. I am looking for a Summer Reading Program Advertising Volunteer as last year’s volunteer said she will not be able to help this year. Volunteers continue to help identify existing book series on our shelves. Labels are generated to help patrons read the series in order. New volunteer David Douglass has begun transcribing oral interviews that I have conducted. This is a big help as 1 hour of interview can take 3 or more hours to transcribe.

Board members took a moment to think about their top 3 changes they would make at the Library. Discussion resulted in a teen book club or a teen cookie and canvas (paint/craft) event. It was fun to dream about possibilities.

There being no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting will be Thursday, March 8, 2018 in the Kirk Community Room at the library.
