Members of the Library Advisory Board met this day in regular session at the Brownsville Library in the Kirk Room, Brownsville, Oregon, at 4:00 PM.

Present: Chairman Joey Running, Jennifer Ashcraft, Jamie McConnell, Librarian Sherri Lemhouse, City Administrator Scott McDowell and Jannea Deaver.

Absent: June Schlosser and Marion Reinemer.

Public: None

Presiding:  Joey Running

Mrs. Running called the meeting to order.  As a first item of business Mrs. Ashcraft made a motion to approve the minutes of the December 13, 2013 meeting as presented by recording secretary Sherri Lemhouse. Mrs. McConnell seconded the motion. The minutes were approved by all.

Librarian Sherri reported that class Genealogy Beyond the Basics is going well. In January Mr. Smith will be teaching how to find and use Census Records and Land Records. In February participants will learn about locating and using Vital Records and Marriage Records. Planning for a Facebook class with Linda McCormick will begin this month. The Children’s Christmas Party was great fun with 22 people attending. The children listened to stories and made a simple paper ornament to take home. I was lucky enough to honor long-time Library Advisory Board Member Sandra Weingarten was honored with a framed Proclamation of Appreciation. She was delighted and was looking forward to finding a place to display this honor in her home office.

Mr. McDowell introduced Mrs. Jannea Deaver. Mrs. Deaver works at City Hall and will be a liaison with City Hall. He confirmed that Mrs. Ashcraft and Mrs. McConnell have received copies of the powers and duties of Library Advisory Board. He suggested that as another sign of appreciation for Ms. Weingarten we present her with a wood pen set with the City emblem engraved on the front. Members agreed with this idea. Mr. McDowell will order this. He also advised members of current events affecting the City

Members continued to review the Library Advisory Board Manual and were assigned another section for the next meeting. Also discussed was the Oregon Library Passport Program. Members decided to not participate at this time. Planning began for a volunteer appreciation party. ‘We Dig our Volunteers’ was decided as a theme. This event was scheduled for Thursday, April 11 from 4 – 6:30 in lieu of the regularly scheduled Library Advisory Board meeting.

There being no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting will be Thursday, March 14, 2013 in the Kirk Community Room at the library.
