2013 Volunteer Appreciation Party a Hit!

2013 Volunteer Appreciation Party a Hit!

The Library Advisory Board was delighted to present Sandra Weingarten with a special pen for her service on the Library Advisory Board. Her latest term expired at the end of December. She has served for 30 years or so. At this time, she is taking a break from serving on the Board. Luckily, Sandra has chosen to continue serving our community on Tuesday mornings at the front desk. I love coming into the Library and knowing competent people are there to help out!

Thirty-five volunteers attended our Volunteer Appreciation Party on Thursday evening. Library volunteers come from all walks of life and many areas of the Central Linn community. Working at the front desk helping patrons is not the only thing volunteers do! Volunteers read at Story Time, lead craft, coordinate and run programs such as the Summer Reading Program, An Evening With the Spaldings and Genealogy: Beyond the Basics. They also cover books, are members of the Library Advisory Board and Friends of the Library, cover books, help with genealogy and history research and oh so much more!

Treats served by Library Advisory Board members were a scrumptious vegie tray, a chocolate trifle, strawberries with whipped cream served over pound cake and lemonade to drink. Don Campell came the closest to guessing how many candies were in the vase. His guess was 150 and there were 157 candies total.  Librarian Sherri thanked the volunteers for their service and read the following quote. Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy.  You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.  ~Author Unknown
